MMA GLOVES

MMA gloves are lightly padded open-fingered gloves used in mixed martial arts competitions around the world since the mid 1990s. MMA Gloves were first introduced to protect protect the figters hands while punching, and to reduce the occurrences of doctors stopping matches due to cuts. Because of MMA gloves fighters have been able to let loose their hands for striking, while still not sacrificing their ablility to grapple. In most professional mma fights, fighters are provided with 4oz mma fight gloves that trutfully offer minimal protection (compared to boxing gloves) to both the fighter's hands and his opponent that is on the other end of his punches.

There are 3 different types of MMA gloves on the market;

• MMA BAG GLOVES: These are mma gloves that are ment to be used on the punching bag, however we at Gorilla don't think it's a good idea using mma style bag gloves as they do not protect your hands as boxing bag gloves would.
• MMA TRAINING GLOVES: These are mma gloves use specifically for sparring, they offer more padding then MMA fight gloves.
• MMA FIGHT GLOVES: These are the small 4oz gloves used in mma competition, we don't recomend mma fight gloves for sparring as you could seriously injure your training partners.

If you are a heavy striker then knuckle protection and wrist support are the key features you should be looking into. For training you'd want a to use an mma training glove that offered at least 2inch of padding, and a wrap around wrist strap. For Fights in which the event doesn't provide you with a pair of MMA fight gloves, you should fight in a glove that offered a bit more padding like a 5-6oz mma glove with a long warp around wrist strap this is assuming you plan on letting your hands fly and don't want to injure your hands or wrists in the process. However if you feel that you have strong condition hands and are pretty confident that you won't get injured then go with a thinly padded 4oz mma fight glove with good wrist support.

For Grapplers small 4oz MMA fight gloves will be perfect. They may not offer that much knuckle protection, but they provide more hand dexterity which gives you bette control while gripping you opponent, and they are less bulky less likly to get caught in a scamble, or used as a handle like mma training gloves.
